Our Process

Trust the process. Your time is coming. Just do the work and the results will handle themselves.

Our Process

Our goal is to treat the whole person, recognizing that pain and disability affect all aspects of a person’s life. Each patient enrolled in the program participates in structured daily activities including group psychological counseling, and physical therapy tailored to their individual needs.

Consultation:

This 3-hour evaluation includes:

  • discussion of your goals and what you want to be able to do
  • explanation of the Functional Restoration Program and review of what you will be doing each day
  • a careful review of your medical history to assure your safety while in the program
  • physical and psychological testing to identify the best approach to meet your needs
  • simple flexibility, lifting and walking tests to see what you can do now compared to what you want to be able to do
  • assessment of any stressors or barriers you feel may affect your treatment or achievement of your goals
  • comparison of your current abilities and goals, and discussion of how you can best get the results you want
  • shared decision-making: a discussion of all the alternatives to determine if the program is right for you

Next Step

If you and the evaluation team agree that FRP can help you reach your goals, we will request authorization for an initial two-week trial. Our friendly staff will work with you, your insurance carrier, and treating physician. If you have barriers to starting or getting the most out of the program (housing, transportation, childcare or child care concerns, etc.), we can arrange and a follow-up visit to reassess your enrollment in the program.

Next Step

Our intensive 32-day program runs five hours a day every day for six weeks. The initial visit involves extensive physical, psychological, and goal evaluations. After the initial evaluation, each day has:

  • 5 hours of group psychoeducation and integration with your goals and plans for work, play, and daily activities (there is extensive planning to ensure you can maintain the gains you have made)
  • Counseling and instruction in pain management and coping skills geared toward self-management of pain are integrated into each of the sessions
